
President Mahinda Rajapaksa has ordered investigations into the alleged attack on Sri Lanka High Commissioner in Britain, Dr Chris Nonis and the complaint against him by the Secretary to the External Affairs Ministry, Kshenuka Seniviratne.
According to media reports, Nonis had been assaulted at a function in New York on September 24 allegedly by Sajin de Vass Gunawardena, Monitoring MP to the External Affairs Ministry.
Dr. Nonis, whose term of office in Britain was extended for another year till 2015, was reportedly involved in a heated argument with the MP which escalated into a scuffle.
High Commissioner Dr Chris Nonis had announced that he had resigned from his post over the assault incident but had refused to comment further.
However, Gunawardena has denied assaulting Dr Chris Nonis.
Meanwhile External Affairs Ministry Secretary Kshenuka Seniviratne has made a complaint against Sri Lanka’s High Commissioner to Britain Dr Chris Nonis.
