A lunar and solar eclipse in this month: Prof. Jayaratne

Out of the four eclipses due for this year the last lunar eclipse and the last solar eclipse would take place in this month within a gap of two weeks, according to Prof. Chandana Jayaratne.
The total lunar eclipse due on October 8 begins at 1.46 p.m. Sri Lanka Standard Time and will end up at 7.04 p.m. Since this occurs mostly during day time for Sri Lanka only the latter part of this eclipse is visible to us as a partial lunar eclipse for a period of about 3 minutes from 6.00 p.m. to 6.03 p.m. with the moon raising from the eastern horizon.
At 6.04 p.m. with the moon entering into the penumbra - the less dark shadow of the Earth, no eclipse would visible except little dimming of the moon light.
The entire total eclipse is visible to the people in part of North America, Canada, New Zealand and part of Australia. Sixteen days later, on October 24th there will be a partial solar eclipse too commencing from 1.08 a.m. Sri Lanka Standard Time.
This is the last solar eclipse of 2014. Unfortunately this eclipse too is not visible to Sri Lanka. This eclipse is visible mainly to the Canada and the USA. The next lunar and solar eclipses visible to Sri Lanka are due on 4 April, 2016 and 9 March, 2016, respectively.
