
A row of shops belonging to Deputy Minister of Petroleum Industries Sarana Gunawardena and located near the Dambulla Economic Center have been destroyed by a fire, which broke out at around midnight yesterday.
Dambulla Police said that the fire was extinguished with the assistance of the fire brigade and residents in the area.
A textile shop, a fruit and vegetable shop as well as a store selling plastic appliances were destroyed in the fire.
The shops, which belong to the Deputy Minister and have reportedly been rented out to businessmen, were previously damaged in a similar fire six months ago.
