Indian SC grants bail to Jaya

The Supreme Court today granted bail to former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa.
Jayalalithaa has got the bail after spending 21 days in a Bangalore jail. Jayalalthaa was sentenced to four years in jail in a DA case.
The chief of the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) has been jailed after being convicted for acquiring assets disproportionate to her income as the Tamil Nadu chief minister during 1991-1996.
A bench headed by Chief Justice HL Dattu posted the case for hearing on October 17, today, after senior advocate Fali S Nariman pleaded to the court to ‘accommodate’ the case in this week itself.
Jayalalithaa had moved the apex court on 9 October for bail on medical grounds, saying that she was suffering from various ailments. The former Tamil Nadu chief minister was convicted by a special court in Bangalore on 27 September, sentencing her to four years in prison and a fine of Rs.100 crore.
Three others—Sasikala, V.N. Sudhakaran and Ilavarasi—were also similarly sentenced. The Karnataka high court denied her appeal, where she had contended that the lower court failed to consider several important judgements in her favour. - India TV News
