Four DIGs among top cops transferred

Several high-ranking police officers including 4 Deputy Inspector Generals (DIGs) have been transferred with immediate effect, as per the instructions of newly appointed Secretary to the Law and Order Ministry, Dr Mahinda Balasuriya.

Transfer orders have reportedly been issued to 4 DIGs, 4 Senior Superintendent of Police (SSPs) as well as 3 Superintendent of Police (SPs) and Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASPs).

In addition to this 8 officers-in-charge (OICs) have also been transferred effective from today.

When contacted by Ada Derana, police media spokesman SSP Ajith Rohana said that the transfers were made according to service requirements.

DIG Mahesh Perera, who was in charge of the Police Special Branch, has been appointed as the Staff DIG to Inspector General of Police (IGP).

DIG Roshan Fernando, who was in charge of Badulla and Monaragala districts, has been transferred to the post of DIG in charge of Kegalle and Ratnapura.

Meanwhile DIG (Legal Range, Disciplinary and Conduct, Human Rights) Gamini Dissanayake has been transferred to the Police Crimes Division while DIG A.R. Waidyalankara has been transferred from Police Headquarters to Puttalam District.
