1200 persons evacuated from landslide prone areas

With the prevailing extreme weather condition is expected to continue with in next 48-hours, some 1200 persons from 337 families have been evacuated from landslide prone areas in Nuwara Eliya District.
The evacuation was done following instructions from the Landslide Research and Risk Management Division, Nuwara Eliya District Secretary D.P.P. Kumarasiri said.
“The evacuated persons from Kotmale, Walapane and Lipakale area are detained in three denotation camps,” Kumarasiri said.
Meanwhile, the Disaster Management Centre (DMC) has issued landslide warning for four districts of Badull, Nuwara-Eliya, Kalutara Kegalle.
Senior Scientist at the Landslide Research and Risk Management Division, Dr. H.A.G. Jayatissa, said that the people living in these areas need to give special attention on all mountain areas, man-made cut slopes, and roads within the district.
