
Customs officers arrested a Sri Lankan couple with 11.8 kilograms of gold worth around Rs 59 million after they arrived at the Katunayake International Airport in a flight from Singapore.
The suspects, residents of Wattala, had hidden a total of 118 gold biscuits inside undergarments packed inside their luggage, customs spokesman Leslie Gamini said.
He stated that 48 gold biscuits were found inside the 35-year-old woman’s luggage and the rest were inside her spouse’s bags. He is 46-years-old.
They had arrived in the country on board SriLnakan Airlines flight UL303 from Singapore at around 4.20pm yesterday (8).
