
A pedestrian died after being hit by an ambulance in the Gonagolla area in Uhana, police said.
The ambulance, belonging to the Gonagolla Rural Hospital, was returning to the hospital from Ampara at around 8.30pm last night when it had hit the pedestrian who was crossing the road.
The 52-year-old resident of Gonagolla had sustained critical injuries in the collision and was immediately rushed to the Gonagolla Hospital in the same ambulance.
However, he had succumbed to injuries after being transferred to the Ampara Hospital for further treatment.
The driver of the ambulance has been arrested over the incident and will be produced at the Ampara Magistrate’s Court, police said.
