
Nawam Mawatha was closed from Slave Island junction due to a public rally at Muttaiah park on Nawam Mawatha, the police said.
The rally was organized by the National Council for a Clean Tomorrow in a bid to pressurise the President to abolish the Executive Presidency and to implement the 19th Amendment.
Jathika Hela Urumaya Parliamentarian Ven. Athuraliye Rathana Thero addressing the event said that the rally was organized not to pic a common candidate for the forthcoming Presidential election, but to unit every possible force and to re-establish the power to create the suitable common candidate.
Opposition Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe, Former Chief Justice Sarath N. Silva, UNP Deputy Leader Sajith Premadasa, MP Mangala Samaraweera, UNP Parliamentarian Ravi Karunanayake, MP Karu Jayasuriya, Maduluwawe Sobitha Thera, JVP MP K. D. Lal Kantha and Democratic National Alliance (DNA) MP Arjuna Ranatunga and many other politicians participated the event.
Meanwhile, the Collective of National Organizations also scheduled a special meeting at the Sugathadasa Indoor Stadium.
