
Some 408 persons from 101 families in Meeriyabadda in Koslanda area have been evacuated from a landslide prone area, with the prevailing bad weather condition is expected to continue with in next 48-hours, the Disaster Management Center (DMC) said.
The evacuation was done following instructions from the Landslide Research and Risk Management Division, according to the DMC. The evacuated persons are currently sheltered in two camps.
Meanwhile, the DMC has issued landslide warning for seven districts of Kandy, Ratnapura, Kegalle, Matale, Badulla, Nuwara-Eliya and Kalutara .
Senior Scientist at the Landslide Research and Risk Management Division, Dr. H.A.G. Jayatissa, said that the people living in these areas need to give special attention on all mountain areas, man-made cut slopes, and roads within the district.
