UNP Ravi Karunanayake MP told Ada Derana that Common Opposition Candidate Maithripala Sirisena will contest at the forthcoming Presidential election under the symbol of ‘white swan’.
He added that the Common Opposition Candidate represents New Democratic Front (NDF).
A group of MPs today made a deposit at the Elections Secretariat on behalf of Maithripala Sirisena.
A candidate from a recognized political party has to make a deposit of Rs.50,000 while other candidates have to make deposits of Rs.75,000 each. According to Elections Commissioner Mahinda Deshapriya, 15 million 540 thousand 492 voters are eligible to vote at the coming election.
The United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA) too made a deposit on behalf of President Mahinda Rajapaksa who will be the UPFA’s Presidential Candidate at the Presidential Election.
