Chief Opposition Whip and UNP Gampaha District MP John Amaratunga today rejected media reports claiming that he is to follow in the footsteps of former UNP General Secretary Tissa Attanayake and crossover to the government.

“I’m not going. I also have no need to go,” the veteran politician said, speaking to Ada Derana regarding the crossover rumours.

“I started working for the United National Party from 1956. (I have been) engaged in active politics with the UNP from 1983. After that I entered Parliament and have completed 35 years. Therefore I have no need to go,” he stressed.

The MP stated that he was neither offered money to join the government nor was he invited to crossover.

Amaratunga, however, stated that he has an amicable relationship with the President and a few UPFA Ministers and MPs and that it is their only association.

The Chief Opposition Whip also said that he regrets certain media have reported that he is to crossover without even asking him regarding the matter.

“If such responsible media works in this manner, who is going to believe the news they report? That is our only regret,” he said.
