
A prison inmate who had been receiving treatment at the Colombo National Hospital under the care of the Prison Authorities has escaped.
The convict, who was sentenced to seven years and nine months of rigorous imprisonment, has reportedly got away, last night, Commissioner General of Prisons, Chandrarathna Pallegama said.
The escapee has some 39 pending fraud cases filed against him in several courts too, it was reported.
The Prison Authorities and the Slaveisland Police have launched two separate investigations in order to capture the suspect.
