Presidential Candidate Maithripala Sirisena has sent a letter of demand to Minister Tissa Attanayake with respect to an alleged secret agreement letter that the Minister displayed at a recent press conference, in which it says it was signed between the Common Candidate and Opposition Leader Ranil Wickramasinghe.
The letter of demand says “I am instructed that my client (Maithripala Sirisena) and Hon. Ranil Wickramasinghe did not sign any Agreement on 1 November, 2014, or on any other day as alleged by you containing any of the conditions which you alleged contains,”
Maithripala has also demanded 2,500 million rupees as compensation.
Ranil Wickramasinghe, in a letter sent to the IGP, also stated that he never signed such agreement with Common Candidate, and accused Minister Attanayake of forging his signature and distributing the document at the press conference.
At the press conference, the Health Minister alleged in addition to the agreements reached with various political parties and organizations in public, Maithripala Sirisena has also signed a secret agreement with the Opposition Leader, which contains several terms that could be harmful to the country.
The United National Party (UNP) too charged that the alleged secret agreement was a fake one.
