
Three bodies have been recovered while several other are feared dead after around five houses were damaged due to a landslide in the Rilpola area in Badulla today.
Police said that at least 10 individuals were inside the houses at the time of the incident and that search operations are currently underway.
Reaching the location of the landslide has proven difficult due to the existing threat of further landslides in the area.
This brings the total confirmed deaths in the Badulla District from prevailing adverse weather to six after 3 persons died as a result of two separate incidents of earth slips.
A 54-year-old woman and her 23-year-old son were killed after an earth embankment collapsed on their home in the Galkanda while one person died due to an earth embankment collapsing on to a residence in the Hegoda area in Badulla.
