Another three bodies have been recovered from the location of yesterday’s landslide which buried around five houses in Rilpola, Badulla.
The bodies were recovered this morning following search operations carried out by Badulla Police and relief teams while this brings the confirmed death toll from the disaster to six.
In addition to the remains of a man, a woman and an infant discovered today, three bodies were also recovered yesterday (26). The bodies of the victims have currently been placed at the Badulla Hospital.
Several others are feared dead after around five houses were damaged due to a landslide in the Rilpola area in Badulla today.
Several other have been reported missing as at least 10 individuals were inside the houses at the time of the incident. Search operations had been hampered due to the existing threat of further landslides in the area and prevailing inclement weather condition.
Meanwhile this brings the total number of persons killed due to floods and landslides triggered by heavy rains in Sri Lanka to at least 17 people in the past four days and marooned nearly a million.
Disaster management officials said 980,095 people from over 270,000 families are affected in 17 districts in the country. There have been 15 disappearances and twelve more are wounded.
