
The Disaster Management Centre says some 24 people have been killed and eight others are missing in floods and mudslides caused by incessant rain around the country over the past week.
The DMC says 106,000 people have lost their homes or evacuated to safer locations.
The biggest damage was reported in Badulla district, where 14 people were killed by mudslides. Dozens of tea plantation workers were killed in the same district in October when mudslides buried their homes.
It is monsoon season in some parts of the county, but many other areas not normally affected are also experiencing non-seasonal rains.
With the prevailing extreme weather condition is expected to continue with in next 24-hours, DMC has also issued landslide warning for six districts.
The land slide warnings have been issued to Kegalle, Ratnapura, Matale, Kandy, Badull, and Nuwara-Eliya districts.
