Sub-Inspector shot by fleeing robbers

A Sub-Inspector (SI) attached to the Padukka Police Station has been shot and wounded during an operation to apprehend a group of suspected robbers this morning.
The Police Spokesman’s Office said that the Padukka Police Station had deployed a team of officers to arrest the suspects who were escaping in a van stolen in the Athurugiriya area.
The suspects had opened fire at the police officers while a bullet had hit the Sub-Inspector.
He was admitted to the Homagama Hospital and later transferred to the Colombo National Hospital for further treatment.
Padukka Police is conducting further investigations to arrest the suspects.
