
President Maithripala Sirisena on Friday condoled the death of King Abdullah of Saudi Arabia who passed away at the age of 90.
President Maithripala Sirisena has expressed his deepest condolences and offered sympathy to the people of Saudi Arabia upon the death of King Abdullah, the President Media Unit said.
Abdullah ibn Abdilaziz was the King of Saudi Arabia from 2005 to 2015. Abdullah, who ascended to the throne on 1 August 2005, passed away early on Friday and his brother Salman became king.
Abdullah’s death was announced on Saudi state TV at 1 am today. He was 90.
Sri Lanka has diplomatic relations with Saudi Arabia since 1974, and the two countries have continued excellent friendship and the best relations.
