Private bus strike on Colombo-Kataragama route

Private bus operators plying the Colombo-Kataragama route have launched a strike action. The bus operators have decided to engage in a strike in protest of the irregular issuing of route permits during the election period for passenger transport between Colombo and Kataragama on the Southern Expressway.
We have informed Internal Transport Minister Rajith Madduma Bandara regarding this matter on numerous occasions, however so far there has been no response, Gemunu Wijeratne, President of the Lanka Private Bus Owners’ Association (LPBOA), said.
Therefore Colombo-Kataragama private bus operators had decided to launch the strike.
