
A Sri Lankan man has been arrested at the Bandaranaike International Airport in Katunayake for attempting to leave the country with foreign currency worth over Rs 7 million concealed in his luggage.
The 45-year-old man, from Kandy, was arrested at the Departure Lounge of the airport this morning with 10 bundles of foreign currency wrapped in carbon paper concealed in his travelling bag.
Customs spokesman Leslie Gamini said that 22,500 Euros, 15,000 Sterling Pounds and 1,000,0000 Japanese Yen – with an estimated value of Rs 7,717,634 was found in the possession of the suspect.
He was preparing to board Singapore-bound flight UL306 at 1.10am today (Feb. 10).
