Leader of New Left Front Dr. Wickramabahu Karunaratne said that former President’s brother and ex-Defence Secretary Gotabaya Rajapaksa should be arrested if enough evidence exists in the floating armoury case.
Karunaratne added that this was discussed at the National Executive Council meeting which headed by Prime Minister Ranil Wickramasinghe. The meeting was held on Wednesday (12) afternoon.
“It was not transparent as to how the financial system of the security firm was continued and under which permissions were granted to continue it,” he added.
A court has already banned Gotabaya Rajapaksa from foreign travel owing to the case.
In response to this move, National Freedom Front (NFF) media spokesman Mohamed Muzammil expressed that the new government is preparing to arrest individuals who oversee the military defeat against the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) after three decades war.
“The new government releases Tamil activists. They grant bail to Tamil Tigers. In the meantime, they are conspiring to arrest the war heroes who oversaw the war. This is disappointing,” said Muzammil.
