Ex-Elections Chief Chandrananda de Silva passes away

Former Commissioner of Elections and diplomat Chandrananda de Silva has passed away this morning at the age of 78.
The veteran public servant passed away at his residence in Rajagiriya.
R.K.Chandrananda de Silva assumed duties as Commissioner of Elections on May 4th, 1982.
During this period new system Elections as adopted in 1978 Constitution came into operation. The Presidential Election and the Referendum came with this system.
The Parliamentary General Elections Act was amended to include the system of Proportional Representation, and later in 1988 the marking of Preferences was introduced.
A veteran civil servant, Mr de Silva also served as the Sri Lankan Ambassador to United Arab Emirates.
