The Supreme Court today upheld the death sentence handed down to 4 persons including the former Angulana OIC for the murder of two youths in August 2009.
The Colombo High Court on August 25, 2011 sentenced the former officer-in-charge of the Angulana Police Post and three other officers after they were found guilty of the double murder in Angulana.
The suspects had appealed the murder convictions while the Supreme Court decision was read before them today by High Court Judge Devika de Livera.
Former OIC K.W. Newton, former Police Constables Galhenage Kumarasiri, Dhammika Jayaratne and former Civil Defence Force member Janapriya Senaratne were found guilty beyond a reasonable doubt for the murders of Dinesh Tharanga Fernando and Dhanushka Aponsu on August 12, 2009.
The four suspects were charged of abducting the two youths and murdering them in the Angulana area.
