FCID arrests Basil Rajapaksa

The Financial Crimes Investigation Division (FCID) has arrested former Economic Development Minister Basil Rajapaksa over allegations of financial frauds against him, a short while ago, the Police Spokesperson said.

 


Former Economic Development Ministry Secretary Dr. Nihal Jayatilaka and former Director General of the Divineguma Department, R.R.K. Ranawaka, have also been arrested, the Spokesperson added. 

 


A statement was also recorded from Rajapaksa on alleged financial misappropriations in the Divi Neguma Department.

 


Basil Rajapaksa, who left the country for the US on 11 January following the defeat of former President Mahinda Rajapaksa at the January Presidential Election, arrived here on Thursday (21) afternoon. 

 


Earlier, the police said they would sought a court order to bring down the former Minister.

 


The former Defence Secretary has been also asked to appear before the Bribery Commission on April 23 and 27 over alleged financial frauds against him.
