Former Minister Wimal Weerawansa arrived at the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) to give a statement, police spokesman ASP Ruwan Gunasekara said.
The MP was summoned for questioning with regard to how his wife’s passport and National Identity Card (NIC) had been obtained, police said.
The CID on Friday (15) informed court that the diplomatic passport and NIC of Shashi Weerawansa have been forged.
The case filed against Mrs Weerawansa, on charges of falsifying documents to obtain a diplomatic passport, was taken up at the Colombo Magistrate’s Court when the CID stated that investigations have confirmed that the passport and NIC have both been forged.
The CID also informed court that the Attorney General’s advise would be sought with regard to the next course of action to be taken against Shashi Weerawansa.
The case was postponed to September 11.
