The Supreme Court on Monday ruled that former Defence Secretary Gotabaya Rajapaksa cannot be arrested for purported allegations mentioned in the petition to the court.
This came after the Attorney General’s Department filed a motion regarding the Fundamental Rights petition filed by the former Defence Secretary. The motion was taken up for hearing before justices Eva Wanasundara and Sarath De Abrew.
The Supreme Court earlier issued an interim order preventing the arrest of Gotabaya Rajapaksa, until the determination of the FR petition filed by him.
Rajapaksa filed the fundamental rights application challenging the legality of establishing the Financial Crimes Investigation Division (FCID) and seeking an interim order preventing his arrest.
