Namal Rajapaksa questioned by CID

UPFA Parliamentarian Namal Rajapaksa arrived at the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) this morning to give a statement, Ada Derana Reporter said.

He has reportedly been summoned for questioning regarding the incident in Angunukolapelessa, which resulted in the arrest of an army corporal for carrying a firearm to a meeting attended by President Maithripala Sirisena.

On Monday (8), Rajapaksa tweeted that he has received a notice to appear at the CID today (June 12).

“Just received notice to be present at the CID June 12 to record a statement, but no information has been given as to the reason,” the tweet said.

On April 25, army commando Cpl. Senaka Kumara, who was detailed to protect former President Mahinda Rajapaksa, had entered a meeting addressed by incumbent President Sirisena in Angunukolapelessa, allegedly armed with a 9 mm pistol.

He had allegedly arrived at the venue with MP Namal Rajapaksa, who had claimed that the soldier was carrying only a water bottle.

Colonel Mahendra Fernando, who was the head of the commando unit of former President Mahinda Rajapaksa, was also summoned to the Criminal Investigation Department over the incident
