MR’s political comeback: final decision by Tuesday

A final decision on whether former President Mahinda Rajapaksa would contest at the forthcoming general election or not will likely be announced by Tuesday, a source close to the former government said. 

 


A meeting is scheduled to be held between several UPFA parliamentarians and former President Mahinda Rajapaksa in Colombo today (28) as well, the source added.

 


The Parliament was dissolved with effect from midnight June 26 by President Maithripala Sirisena. According to the gazette notification, the parliamentary election is to be held on August 17 while the new parliament is to convene on September 01.
