The Indian  police have arrested two former students of the Ernakulam Maharaja’s College in connection with the theft of computers and other electronic devices from the political science department of the college.

The arrested have been identified as Bhuvanachandran (22), a Sri Lankan origin, and Vaishal Sarang (22), two former students of the college. The accused, who regularly entered the college campus during nights for allegedly consuming ganja and liquor, found the door of one of the rooms in the political science department open. Later, they opened the door of the staff room and made off with the computers, LCD television, two UPS units and a printer,” officials said. The duo roamed the campus for over three hours as part of transporting the stolen equipments and jumped over the compound wall for about four times. 

“The duo had first entered into the campus around 7.30 p.m. and when they returned to the campus for one last time to take away the TV holder,” officials added.

The accused were traced based on the clues received from the protestors and they were caught by tracking the mobile tower location. The stolen goods were kept at Bhuvanachandran’s friend’s house at Ravipuram. 

The theft, which took place on June 24 set off a war of words between the protestors and the activists of Kerala Students union, who accused the protestors of conniving with the thieves. (The Hindu)
