Evangelicals create ‘sin-free’ Facebook

A group of Evangelical Christians in Brazil is trying to do its part to cleanse humanity of its bikini pics, its cursing and its general tendency toward fornication.

It has created Facegloria, a social network specifically for those of a holy heart.

As Agence France-Presse reports, the site was formed by a group of Evangelicals who worked at the mayor’s office in Ferraz de Vasconcelos, near Sao Paulo.

“On Facebook you see a lot of violence and pornography”, founder Atilla Barros told AFP.

“We are creating Ummaland on Islamic values, no small talk, no boasting, no gossiping and backbiting but focusing on the message that really matters”, said co-founders Maruf Yusupov and Jamoliddin Daliyev in an interview shortly after the site launched. Facegloria has a list of 600 banned words, prohibits sexy photos and videos of gay people kissing, and more.

For some, hitting the “Like” button on Facebook just isn’t enough. The site’s creators met while working at the mayor’s office in Ferraz de Vasconcelos, near Sao Paolo, and banded together over their shared loathing of the vile, pornographic filth Zuckerberg allows on his social network.

The network is policed by a team of 20 volunteers, on the lookout for any content that could damage the fabric of society.

FaceGloria, which is now only available in Portuguese, reportedly attracted 100,000 users in its first month. On the bright side; you won’t be in fear when you see that you’ve been tagged in a post on a Sunday morning.

“We want to be better morally and structurally that Facebook”, he says.

Brazilian evangelicals have launched Facegloria, a communication site, much like Facebook, but with a much holier objective.

Considering that the original Facebook has censored Christian content before, Facegloria may be a safe haven for the evangelical community in South America, and eventually the world, as they have already purchased the domain name in all “possible languages”.

Even photos which show alcohol consumption or smoking will come under scrutiny, though FaceGlória’s staff says they’ll be evaluated given the context within which they were taken.

“Our public does not publish these kinds of photographs”, said volunteers Daiane Santos, 26, who spends six hours a day patrolling FaceGloria – in addition to his job in the town’s commerce department. It is targeting 10 million users within two years.

If it’s going to happen, Brazil is probably the ideal place for a Christian social network to begin.
