The Foreign Employment Bureau says that no Sri Lankan has been injured from the fire that broke out at a residential block belonging to Saudi Arabian Aramco oil company at Al Koba in Saudi Arabia.
Some 11 persons have died from the incident while 219 have been injured.
It is reported that there were 484 housing units in this residential block. The fire that broke out in the ground floor of the apartment has spread to other nearby buildings as well.
According to the Government Information Department, Media Coordinator of the Bureau, Mangala Randeniya, has said that Prime Minister Ranil Wickremasinghe has also instructed the Bureau to implement a special programme to find out whether any Sri Lankan has been injured from the incident. He said that two officers of the Sri Lankan Embassy at Saudi Arabia have already reached the location to inquire about this.
