Highest paid YouTube star earns $12 Million

Most of the YouTube stars in the Forbes list are under 30, a little older than their audience who are mostly part of the generation that prefers YouTube over television.

List-topper Felix Kjellberg (aka PewDiePie), is a 25-year-old Swede who earned an estimated $12 million previous year as the most watched video gamer in the world, with about 40 million viewers subscribing to his hilarious (aka annoying?) play-through videos, rife with boisterous comments and Millenial catch-phrases.

YouTube, now in its second decade, has become a place where content creators can cash in with sponsored videos, dedicated product lines and of course ads. Showing off her unusual talent has paid off for Lindsey Stirling, as well, seeing as she took in $6 million for dancing while playing the violin in her videos. Comedy acts seem to be doing great on the website, as well, with duos Smosh and Fine Brothers getting $8.5 million each.

Tied for fifth were comedians Rhett and Link – made of Rhett McLaughlin and Charles Lincoln Neal III – and video game commentator Olajide Olatunji, known as “KSI”, with $4.5 million.

The No. 8 slot was a three-way tie at $2.5 million shared by comedian Lilly Singh, or “Superwoman;” prankster Roman Atwood; and chef Rosanna Pansino. A few comment on videogames while a few might offer beauty tips.
