Mother and son sentenced for murder of daughter-in-law

A woman and her son were sentenced to death by the Kandy High Court today after they were found guilty in the murder of the latter’s wife in Rattota, Matale.
A 30-year-old woman was shot, stabbed and clubbed to death in 2009 while charges were filed against her husband and mother-in-law over the murder.
It is said that the witness testimony given by the victim’s then 4-year-old son was a major factor in the murder trial and that it led to the guilty verdict.
The woman, 58, and her son, 38, were sentenced to death by High Court Judge Menaka Wijesundara today.
