
Indian Minister Pon Radhakrishnan today visited family members of fishermen arrested by the Sri Lankan Navy recently and assured them that steps would be taken for securing their release.
Radhakrishnan visited Nambiar Nagar fishing hamlet in Nagapattinam and assured the fisherfolk that the Centre will take all steps to secure the release of the arrested fishermen along with their boats.
The Minister appealed to the fishermen of the area not to venture into the Sri Lankan waters for fishing.
A total of 31 fishermen of Nagapattinam district have been arrested by the Sri Lankan Navy during the past three weeks.
Fishermen of the district have launched an indefinite strike and are also undertaking various agitations in protest against the arrests.
