The second stage of the foster parent scholarship scheme “Derane Daruwo,” launched by TV Derana as the second phase of its CSR initiative “Manusath Derana” received an unprecedented number of pledges for donations as the program came to a close a short while ago on Sunday (18).
The project, which was launched last year aiming to raise funds to educate children of families affected by kidney disease across the country, has thus far provided scholarships for over 2,000 students.
At today’s event, TV Derana received a number of pledges via phone calls and online applications, within just eight hours, each promising to provide financial assistance to a student in desperate need of help to peruse their education.
Each donation will be made as Rs 1,500 per month for a student for a period of 5 years (Rs 1,500 X 12 X 5), which will amount to Rs 90,000 at the conclusion of the scholarship period.
Pledges were received during an eight-hour in-depth discussion involving experts, artists and other leading figures which was telecasted live (from 8.00 am to 4.00 pm) on TV Derana.
