The Department of Meteorology says that under the influence of an atmospheric disturbance in the vicinity of Sri Lanka, prevailing showery condition will continue.
Showers or thundershowers will be experienced over most parts of the island while these showers can occur at any time of the day, according to a severe weather advisory issued by the Early Warning Centre.
Heavy falls (more than 100mm) can be expected at some places, particularly in the hill country.
Sea areas off the coast extending from Mannar to Hambantota via Colombo and Galle will be rough at times as the wind speed can be increased up to 60-70kmph.
There may be temporary localized strong winds during thundershowers, the Met Department said while requesting the general public to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by lightning activity.
