The Department of Meteorology says that the low pressure area is now located to the East of Sri Lanka and that under the influence of the system showery weather and cloudy skies over the country is expected to continue.
Possibility for strong winds over the country and surrounding sea areas is high, according to a severe weather advisory issued by the Early Warning Centre of the department.
Showers or thundershowers will be expected over most parts of the island while these showers can occur at any time of the day. Very heavy falls (about 150mm) can be expected at some places, it said.
The sea areas off coast extending from Kankasanthurai to Hambantota via Trincomalee and Batticaloa will be very rough at times as the winds can strengthen up to 70-80 kmph at times.
Naval and fishing communities are kindly requested not to set out to the sea off South, East and North coast of Sri Lanka.
