The Private Bus Owners’ Association (PBOA) has decided to file a case with the Human Rights Commission of Sri Lanka (HRCSL) against the manner in which the police implement laws related to carriageway regulations.
Private Bus Owners’ Association President Gemunu Wijeratne told Ada Derana that the case will be filed within next few days.
Wijeratne added that the case will be filed over the inaction of the police to take legal action against luxury vehicle drivers. “Traffic cops are biased. They don’t fine luxury vehicle drivers,” said Wijeratne.
Road regulations applicable to carriageways were strictly implemented in Colombo and suburbs since November 26.
The Police Department had also given a special training to traffic police officers on regulations applicable to carriageways, according to the police Spokesperson.
The police stressed that legal action will be taken against motorists who break this law.
