
The Ministry of Transport says that individuals caught traveling by train without purchasing tickets will be fined a penalty of Rs 5,000 and double the fare with effect from January 01, 2016.
The fine imposed on ticketless train passengers was increased from Rs 900 to Rs 2,500 in 2013.
However, from next year a passenger travelling without ticket or travelling in the first class compartment on second class or third class ticket will now be fined Rs 5,000 plus double the amount of his or her train fares.
