
The Sri Lankan government on Wednesday strongly condemned the terrorist attack on the Indian Air Force base in Pathankot.
“The Government and people of Sri Lanka extend condolences to the victims and their families.Sri Lanka remains committed to work with countries in the region and beyond to combat terrorism in all its forms and manifestations,” a government statement said.
Pathankot Air Force base, the location of this weekend’s deadly attack in which seven military personnel were martyred and another 20 injured by six terrorists from Pakistan.
An umbrella group of Kashmiri militants, the United Jihad Council, had claimed responsibility for the Saturday attack.
Indian Defense Minister Manohar Parrikar said Tuesday at a news conference held on the base that the battle with militants had ended.
The Home Ministry initially said the attack was contained on Sunday, but it later emerged that militants were still at the site. Security forces worked Monday to “eliminate” two remaining militants.
