The Colombo High Court today (12) granted bail to former Justice Sarath de Abrew in a case in which he is charged with an alleged assault on a domestic worker.
Sarath de Abrew was enlarged on a cash bail of Rs.100,000 and two personal bails of 100,000 each, Ada Derana reporter said.
Earlier yesterday, the Colombo High Court rejected a petition filed by Sarath de Abrew claiming that the charge sheet compiled against him by the Attorney General was illegal in connection with a complaint lodged by the domestic worker over the alleged assault incident.
Abrew, who is alleged to have attacked the domestic worker at his house on or around June 26, was initially granted bail by the Mt-Lavinia Magistrate’s Court on July 07, 2015.
The Sri Lankan Domestic Workers Union, along with other trade unions and women’s groups, also organised a picket, outside the Supreme Court over this incident on July 6.
Earlier, in 2012, a police constable attached to the Mt-Lavinia police had also lodged a complaint, stating that Abrew had allegedly assaulted him while he was on guard duty at the Justice’s residence in Attidiya.
