Former Vavuniya DIG U.K. Dissanayake and a Chief Inspector, who were arrested in connection with an incident of illegal excavation carried out in Kudakachchakodiya, have been further remanded until February 02.

The suspects were remanded by the Vavuniya Magistrate’s Court today, Ada Derana reporter said.

Earlier, President Maithripala Sirisena issued a directive to the IGP to expedite an inquest in connection with a disappearance case of a cop, who was a witness in this case as well. Sergeant P. Gunatilake, who gave a statement at the Police HQ on the illegal excavation, went missing since mid August, 2015.

The statement had been recorded few days prior to Gunatilake’s disappearance, according to the police.

The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) arrested DIG Dissanayake in September, 2015, as the preliminary police investigation found he had allegedly motivated a group to carry out the excavation in search of buried treasure in Kudakachchakodiya in Vavuniya.
