Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka today charged that although the Attorney General ordered the arrest of ruling party MP Hirunika Premachandra within a week, he is “tongue-tied” over the Avant-Garde issue.

“Before one week the Attorney General issued orders to Arrest Hirunika (Premachandra). However, he is tongue-tied and unable to make a decision regarding the transactions of Avant-Garde amounting to millions and keeps pushing and pulling it,” the leader of the Democratic Party told reporters in Colombo. 

He also accused Justice Minister Wijedasa Rajapaksa of spreading false information regarding the Avant-Garde incident by claiming the agreement consists of 3,000 pages and that it can only be understood by those who know English.

“I think he is slinging mud at the JVP by saying they do not know English,” he said while adding that although members of the Marxist don’t speak in English they have the ability to understand such matters.

The former Army Commander said that 6 agreements have been signed with the private security company since 2012 and that that a final 7th agreement, inclusive of the six previous agreements, was signed in 2014 and that it only consists of 10 pages. 

“Minister Wijedasa Rajapaksa will have to explain to the country how he saw 10 as 3,000.” 

Fonseka further claimed that the agreement so harmful that the government has to pay the company Rs 20 million if it violated the agreement.
