UNP National List MP Dr A.R.A. Hafeez says that he decided to resign from his parliamentary seat due to personal reasons.

A member of the Sri Lanka Muslim Congress (SLMC), Dr Hafeez handed his resignation to Speaker Karu Jayasuriya yesterday (19).

Speaking to Ada Derana, he stated that it was voluntary decision in order to make way for an SLMC member representing a district which is currently not represented by the party in Parliament.

However, according to sources the name of an SLMC candidate from the Eastern Province, who contested and was defeated at the last General Election, has been proposed to fill the vacant seat.
