The last rites of late Minister M.K.A.D.S. Gunawardena will be held in Kantale on January 24.
The remains of the late Minister will be brought to his house in Kantale this afternoon.
A longstanding member of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP), Gunawardane resigned from this deputy minister post in 2014 and joined the campaign of common opposition candidate Maithripala Sirisena to defeat Mahinda Rajapaksa at the Presidential Election.
He was appointed as the Minister of Lands following Sirisena’s election victory on January 08, 2015.
In the 2015 general election, he contested under the United National Party (UNP) and was re-appointed as the Minister of Lands after the UNP won the election.
Gunawardane entered Parliament through the UNP’s National List due to failing to secure a seat at the election.
