Leader of the Pivithuru Hela Urumaya (PHU), MP Udaya Gammanpila, today warned the government that it is destroying the unity already existing within the country, in the name of reconciliation.
The UPFA MP criticized the government’s decision for the national anthem to be sung in Tamil as well as Sinhala at the Independence Day ceremony on February 04.
The people will feel like they are one only if the entire nation sings the national anthem in one voice, he said, adding, that separatists are attempting to draw the line of division.
He stated that singing the national anthem in a different language is the strengthening of separatism and that thinking it will lead to fostering national unity is a ‘myth’.
He warned that soon requests will come for different national flags and claimed this is the start of the mental mission to divide the country.
He accused the heads of the government, including the President, of supporting separatism in the country.
Can unity and togetherness be built by allowing to act separately, he questioned. “This is a joke.”
