An Australian national has drowned while sea bathing off the Hikkaduwa beach, police said.
The 72-year-old man was rushed to the Karapitiya Hospital, however was pronounced dead on admission.
The body has been placed at the Karapitiya Hospital while the postmortem examination is to be performed today.
Hikkaduwa Police is conducting an investigation.
