Driver killed, foreigner injured as car crashes into tree

One person died while another suffered injuries after a car veered off the road and crashed into a tree near a fuel station in the Weligama town on the Galle-Matara main road.
Police said that the driver of the car and a passenger, who is said to be a foreign national, were rushed to the Walana Hospital, however the former who was critical condition succumbed to injuries before admission.
The deceased is a 42-year-old resident of Paburana in Matara.
The foreign national has been transferred to the Matara General Hospital for further treatment.
Weligama Police is conducting an investigation into the incident.
