Authorities in Sri Lanka have arrested two Maldivians for allegedly blackmailing a Maldivian couple using compromising pictures they had taken on a visit to the island nation.
Haveeru reports that the two men had forcefully obtained money from the victim and his wife after publishing one of the photos on the internet. The couple had been promised that the photo would be taken offline and that no more photos would published.
Sources also told Haveeru that Sri Lankan police had recovered compromising photos and video clips of Maldivian politicians from the two suspects.
The two had been remanded till March 26.
In a similar case in 2011, politicians and state officials were blackmailed to give money using compromising photos and videos.
